Missouri Athletic Club

St. Louis, Missouri

Founded in 1903, the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) is a private athletic, dining, social and business club with two locations in the St. Louis area. To upgrade the outdated two-story fitness building at its west campus, the MAC partnered with V Three Studios to develop a master plan studying the transformation of existing racquetball courts and their connection to the rest of the facility. Now complete, the facility has been transformed into a state-of-the-art, all-in-one fitness center with competitive amenities and a clean, modern design.

Recognizing the need to provide a wider variety of in-house services to their members, the MAC decided to commence a phased renovation in two parts, with V Three Studios overseeing the logistics. Phase one of the renovation saw a portion of the existing racquetball court modules reconfigured and retooled to provide an expanded weight room, a new yoga studio, and a second level mezzanine walkway with new office space. Phase two then extensively re-worked most of the remaining racquetball courts to provide dedicated, professional quality spaces for programs like spinning, functional training, cardio, group X, youth activities, and more.

The renovation integrated substantial improvements to building systems, circulation, and overall user experience. The facility now provides improved visual connections among fitness bases thanks to floor-to-ceiling frameless glass dividing various spaces. Additionally, the new spinning room is designed to create a grand, immersive experience that competes with the most high-end rooms in the country. A large screen, multi-color LED lighting strips, and acoustic baffles throughout the space enable the instructor to transform the room to enhance any given fitness routine. The double-volume area was carved out of the space program by turning the room 90 degrees and connecting it to circulation corridors on each side.
