Webster University | Black Box Theater

St. Louis, Missouri

Webster University is pursuing plans to transform an existing vacant retail space into a new 80-100 seat Blackbox Theater. The intent of this adaptive reuse is to create a flexible teaching and performance space to support University curriculum while providing an additional space for performances open to the general public. The proposed renovation includes building shell and core upgrades for an occupancy change in use, updates to existing MEP-FP systems and the creation of a new Black Box Theater. The Black Box Theater will include not only the acoustically tuned and isolated performance space but the supports space as well, such as the ticket office, coat check, potential concessions, dressing rooms, cast restroom and scene shop and storage. The theater features raw wood flooring, collapsible tiered seating and non-traditional proscenium arrangement.
